Beachship

2024

Beachship is the phase 2 of a long-term community-based project that focus on engaging local residents with cosatline, greenspace, healthy food, as well as environmental issues in Blackpool, UK. It was a ten days project that includes co-building, workshops, and performance led by the constellation of Futurefarmers.

We built a wooden ship together with volunteers at Blackpool in five days and then carried out a series of workshops surrounding the story of sailing a boat at the beach. People of completely different background from different communities came to join us in sailing a beachship. Participants were assigned with specific roles with costumes and tools and given a mutual goal in the workshop. They were required to sail the beachship by colaborating with the wind, as a way to connect to natural environment. Besides, we created ocean inspired patterns together with people to put on the wheel. As the ship moves, they were printed on the beach, telling the story to the wider audience.

Meanwhile, workshops such as specimen inspection, sand drawing, shadow play, etc were performed as side activities for people to experience the coastline in different views.
